It’s the 1st day of September and it falls on Thankful Thursday!
A while back I started Thankful Thursdays and Tuesday Girl has been selling real estate like Country Mischief’s breakfast specials (yes, that is A LOT!). I am sorry I have not been able to post for awhile. I am happy and thankful to say that real estate is very busy right now and in the last month we welcomed 3 new sets of neighbors to our wonderful, historic and happening town of Templeton. I am so thankful for my new neighbors, but today I want to talk about family and generations.
I grew up here in Templeton and I did move away for almost 20 years, but came back because I missed the small town feeling and my family is here … yes, my family has been here for many generations. I am not sure how the tree goes, but we are related to the Boynton family that gave funds to start our library so that shows you far back our family goes; along with many other folks in town. I believe that is where my love of books and reading and writing come from and I am grateful for those gifts that have been passed to me. I am thankful for the generations that have been here and that remain here because they love this town and it’s history and it’s future.
I have many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles that live here, but my parents are still here and I came back because it’s such a great place to raise a family and my kids and I needed to be closer to them. I know, really? I spent my teenage years thinking I couldn’t wait to get the heck out of dodge and away from my parents and now I needed to be back? Well, that where the generations come into play. I learned so much from my grandparents and aunts and uncles that I wouldn’t be who I am today without them. The stories they would tell were interesting, funny, sad, and when you are a kid mostly boring. However, I know those stories stuck with me and the time spent with them a precious jewel. The time spent at my Mummu’s house with my cousins and Dad, Aunts and Uncles were the best times of my youth and memories I will always cherish. Mummu’s cats, her love of Elvis and polka music that we would dance to in her living room, Christmas with ham and beans, the couch I sat on with all my best friend cousins, my father’s guitar playing, the rock in the yard we played on and the hammock will all be memories I keep forever.
I have many family members that I am thankful for, but today I want to thank my Dad for being there and always making memories with Zach; teaching him things about our past, present and future. He has gone fishing, taken walks in our town and thrown rocks off of Stoney Bridge. He has danced in the living room, sat on the couch with his best friend cousins, sang songs in the music room. He has gone to the skate park and heard stories of “when I used to go to school” and shared special times that will have an impact on who he becomes, his values and how he lives his life. So thank you Papa for the “generation” memories you have shared and given of yourself that have made it so worth it to have come home.
Tuesday Girl is always thankful for you the Tuesday fans and Templeton neighbors too! Please share your thankful “generation” thoughts with me!
