Tuesday Girl is very excited about the new project being called The Mall at Templeton! I also want to share this information with you and ask for your support and at the bottom is a call to action.
Back a month or so ago, one of the Tuesday fans posted on the wall that they heard the Mall was going to have the name “Patriots” in it and many of you expressed your displeasure surrounding the name. I took what you said to the developer and attorneys and they heard your opinions and went to the investors and hence the name “The Mall at Templeton” was born. This is an exciting project and was approved by the Planning Board and the Conservation Commission in late March early April 2011.
The 50 acres of land off the ramp and at Exit 19 at the intersection of Route 2, Route 2a and Route 202 was permitted for 270,000 square feet of commercial/retail use. The project is designed to accommodate a big box retailer, grocery store, drug store and a gas station that will have a Dunkin Donuts. In addition, there will be a a convenience store, a car wash and diesel truck stop along with other smaller retail users and this would include local business here in town that wants to expand and grow their already thriving business.
The plan includes a solar facility to power the site and a water tower that will also loop the water line to increase water pressure to that end of town. This will also bring cleaner water to all the residents in that end of Templeton. A pad for a helicopter will be in the lot to handle emergency transportation to hospitals in the event of accidents on Route 2 and other roadways in the surrounding vicinity. Route 2a may be widened at the site and there will be a boulevard entrance with two lanes into the site and two lanes out. A traffic light will control the intersection into the Mall. Below is a Plan for the Mall.
The assessors in Templeton estimate that the site, when built out, may realize real estate revenue to the Town of approx $200,000 per year. Construction jobs for infrastructure work could result in 50 jobs, the build out of the buildings on the site may result in 100 jobs and these numbers are approximations as these constructions jobs during the build out phase will be temporary. Ultimately, when the entire project is completed the results could be 250-300 full and part time jobs.
Part of the land for the site is in Phillipston so the site gains regional status in the eyes of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and as a result, “The Mall At Templeton” would have the designation of a regional mall.
At this time the Town is applying for grants through the newly organized Works Infrastructure Program and the support and assistance of the residents of Templeton and Phillipston would be greatly appreciated. As a part of the grant submission, letters from residents of Templeton and Phillipston expressing your support for the project with respect to increased tax revenues to the town, creation of part-time and full-time jobs to our communities, increased revenue to other local businesses in both towns along with any other specific and positive individual comments will be helpful in increasing the chances of receiving any grants. All letters will be attached to the application submitted to the State for approval.
Attached below is a petition and signature page(s) in favor of The Mall at Templeton and we need as many signatures as possible. I will be door knocking in my neighborhood and around the local businesses and I am asking for volunteers to help me out with this project. We need to complete this by August 27th so I can turn them in for submission to the State. If you will be writing a letter, please send that to me as soon as you can so those can also be submitted with the application and petition.
If you have any questions at all, please feel free to message me on Facebook, email me at 1TuesdayGirl@gmail.com or call me. Tuesday Girl is in support of The Mall at Templeton and I am asking my fellow citizens to rally around the creation of revenue and jobs that are needed in this economy and community.
