Resolution Smezolution (is that a word?)

Tuesday Girl doesn’t like New Year Resolutions, but Commitments on the other hand….

I would love to write down some resolutions that I have tried over the last many years, but never stuck to.  It took me several years to figure out that just because you say it out loud and write it down doesn’t mean you are COMMITTED to it.  So, I stopped making resolutions or in my words” empty promises” and starting making realistic commitments instead.  I began by setting deadline dates for big things and time blocking for the little things.   I try to take the month of January to reflect on where I have been in the last year and where I want to be in the coming year.  I am working at the same time I am reflecting, but I carve out some personal time to really just work on setting my commitments and more importantly being realistic about it.

Last year one of my commitments was to quit smoking I am happy to say that I am 10 months smoke free and I feel so much better for it.  I had been sick too many times the previous year and just decided that was it, I chose a deadline date, worked toward that day by making small changes each week and March 9th I quit~cold turkey as they say.  I already knew certain things would happen and I had already decided I was good with that, like gaining weight and being antsy and crabby, headaches, tiredness ~ yet no one in my house figured it out for a week that I had stopped smoking.  So, was it really that bad? ~YES ~ quitting was hard, but the rewards have been great.  The things I have learned about myself are absolutely invaluable.

The other commitment I wanted to make was to my career and since I am my own business I wanted to know what was getting in the way of my business fulfillment.  Since I am self employed, personal and business tend to go hand in hand so that commitment went with some of my personal life as well.  I was not sure exactly how to go about this and I went to several seminars on being an entrepreneur,  how to build your business and keep it, a couple of personal self improvement classes etc…all salesy kind of information and some personal information I had already heard in years gone by, but never anything about how I work as a person or what might be hindering me from achieving my goals.  Hence one more seminar and TADAH, I found about about COACHING and went for it!  Best decision I ever made.   This was a large COMMITMENT of time and money, however, didn’t I want this and didn’t I deserve to be on top of my game and know what motivates me?  We as individuals are our most valuable asset are we not?

I worked very hard with my coach Jeffrey St Laurent and his innovative “in the moment” coaching taught me valuable things about myself and in partnership with him I accomplished much.  I learned what makes me tick, how to get rid of negative self talk, setting limits, how to set and keep daily goals, how to know who I am and work within those boundaries, making and keeping effective habits, how powerful words are, how to accept these things that make me who I am and stop trying to fit into a mold that I believed you had to be in order to be effective and successful.   That’s the thing about coaching, if they are not asking you the right questions and listening and they are telling you where you should be…move on!  I know I achieved my commitment and I have come so far in the last year and learned where I am and also learned that I already had the tools inside of myself to accomplish my goals.  I just had to weed through the muck and believe and commit to myself.  That is a simplified version of almost a whole year of coaching.  If you want to move ahead, be on top of your game, expand and fulfill your business and your personal life (at the same time because as an entrepreneur we mix both don’t we?), well, I highly recommend coaching and making that commitment to yourself.  You will see rewards beyond your expectations and learn to go for everything and leave nothing on the table.

I have not figured out all of my commitments for this year, but my customers both current, past and future are very important to me and they will be at the top of my list.  This year I will combine my real estate website, my Tuesday blog and website and Facebook pages together so all my fans, clients and customers can be in one place and it will be much easier to engage with all of you.  I enjoy writing, blogging about local businesses, bringing you Templeton news, real estate updates and current matters, but it has been difficult to maintain two separate sites and bring all this to you in a great format.  So, my first commitment is to make that transition for my most important people~YOU!

Don’t be what this comic says ~ I hope you all will make at least one COMMITMENT to yourselves this year because you are a very worthy investment.  This past year has been wonderful and I have enjoyed being your Tuesday Girl!  I wish you all the best in 2011 and please share with me what commitments you have made so I can celebrate your victories .  If you need some assistance I can be a great resource to put you in touch with someone that can help you achieve your goals.  Happy New Year Tuesday Fans!!

Thank you again for being such great fans and helping your Tuesday Girl achieve her commitments and have such fun doing it!
